My goodness she is fit! This is my first time watching this channel. I do not know who Natacha is, but clearly she's very athletic. It is completely unheard of to see a Black male ballet dancer. I am so glad I watched this video. Eric was so amazing!!! Just a very kind, motivating dance instructor from such a strict form of dance.

One of the most famous pianists of the 21st century, Yuja Wang said in an interview that when she told her father that she wanted to become a ballet dancer, he said that she doesn't have the discipline for it and that she should play the piano instead. 😂 People really don't understand how much effort, time and sacrifice goes into becoming a professional ballet dancer.

I respect this video so much. I think people forget that different sports require different muscles; and not only does ballet require A LOT of strength, it isn't easy, even if someone is flexible/in fantastic shape, because they may not be used to using their "ballet" muscles! xx

OMG That was so much fun! I danced ballet for 15 yrs straight and you did really well for your 1st try at it. People don't realize how hard ballet dancers train for years! Glad you explained his schedule. I found myself dancing with you guys. I really enjoyed watching Eric too. He seems so fun and light hearted, yet amazing at what he does. BTW you do your work really well too. You are an amazing athlete and really help the fitness community globally with facts, education, motivation, science, and nutrition. Not to mention your a badass who teaches us how to train at home or in the gym properly with authenticity and vulnerability; not ego. What a fun day for you and a great viewing experience for us. Thank you for making my quarantine / LA Smokey Fire day brighter with smiles and joy!

I’ve seen a lot of people commenting that ballet is one of the hardest sport, and I actually think that, that is underestemating the artform. While i believe, as a ballet dancer, that dancers are definitley athletes, I think that they are much more than sports performers. Dance does aquire so much strength and indurance, but it also is dependent on asthetichs and creativity. Therefore I personally wouldn’t call dance a sport, instead a challenging athletic artform.

@Drachenschnauze Sorry for this 2-month-late reply, but to re-iterate my point again, competitve dancing is not a sport, it is just competitive dancing because as stated above it lacks a sport-format. The only type of competitive dance that does not is Dancesport, but that only encompasses ballroom styles at present. Also one of the key aspects your argument fails to address is that there is no industry-wide standard for scoring in competitive dance, and both the maximum number of possible points and maximum score depend on the company that produces the competition. Meaning that the even the scoring system is neither standardised nor objective. Thus as a result some competitions may favour leaps and jumps, others turns, others artistry, others technique, some costumes and so on. Then there is the fact that competitive dance doesn't even have a national governing body, let alone an international one like the IDSF or WDC (Dancesport); FIG (Gymnastics); ISU (figure skating) etc. Which is why competitive dance also lacks a code of points--the core common denominator in all artistic-sports and is most notably how skills and their values are determined. So in conclusion, once more--competitive dance is just that, competitive dance. It is a competitive activity. not a sport; as it is not competed under a sport-format and competition is not the only factor which determines that.

Yes but despite of this, high schoolers walk by my studio everyday mocking dancers with that pose that all you guys know and I don’t need to explain. But the funny thing is, they think that’s the only thing in ballet tippy toes and hands above heads. But it’s not. I really had the urge to open the door, drag them in, shove pointe shoes on their feet, and make them dance. Ugh so annoying. My teacher calls them the annoying youths.

2 måneder siden

@MD-722 competitive dancing is a sport, you have movements defining the sport, you have a certain infrastructure around the world and certain criteria you can objectively judge. Is the technique done right? Is the dancer on the music, does he/she know the backround of the performance, and yes you can see that in the technique just as well as in martial arts (purpose of the technique). And by the way, no judgement call is clearly objective, an example is Tul in Taekwondo.

late to the game as a former dancer who taught for a bit too, you learned SO quickly! I almost think sometimes dance can be a little more challenging to learn when you're older because you've learned ways of doing things differently (e.g. the plie that was more like a squat at first) so ballet is almost even more unnatural in comparison to a young child first learning how to bend their knees if that makes sense. I Also appreciate videos like this! I think it humanizes dancers and their art form. Especially because we train so hard to make it look easy, it makes sense why it's commonly underrated but to see how difficult even the coordination of leg, arm, and head movements show that it takes quite a bit of hard work. Thank you for sharing a wonderful video!
