beauty standards never change. marylin monroe is still gorgeous. it's the beauty community that keeps changing. if they don't get people's attention they don't sell things. shallow people worry about beauty standards because they have no depth of understanding that it's totally meaningless. men are programmed in such a way to be attracted to breasts and full hips. this will never change. it is programmed for breeding purposes. you my dear would be pretty today and pretty 60 years from now. beauty doesn't age or go out of style.

So you have a British accent but the only Americans you could include at the end had to be liberals? Try to understand thought diversity is a must. There are many beautiful Conservatives from the UK's Margaret Thatcher to our Trump family. You claim to want people to embrace a healthy version of themself, but can't include a range of viewpoints? I'm a minority female professor, that's a problem. When we look for "diversity" to be outer appearance, never thoughts and viewpoints we are creating a mental prison and brainwashing every bit as unhealthy as butt implants. -- Nice slice of history though.

Literally I’m convinced the trend setters are sitting there thinking “what can we do do make this trend the absolute hardest thing to accomplish ever? Oh I know how about we make it so that girls should have TINY stomachs and legs but then magically end up with huge boobs and butts! It will be perfect since a whole 2% of the world naturally looks like this!”😂😭

@6:23 was from the 70s... Saturday Night Fever was disco era. It's easy to understand how dramatic the shift was from the teens to the "roaring 20s." The corsets and Gibson Girl silhouettes were stifling and probably prevented most women from being physically active. It's no wonder that women started wearing short little flapper dresses and danced like manics in the 20s. They were finally able to BREATHE!

Media isn't a single being. The media portrays trends as you said and prints images that will sell at a given moment. Growing up I felt weird for not being tall and skinny and white. I'm glad for the Nicki Minaj and the Kim K because finally it was a big deal to have a wide mid section but everyone is ripping on them like being skinny was anymore gracious. The role models have shifted. Social media is our new magazine and we control what we like and support. I'd say we've never been more empowered to choose what represents us. Just like i think this video isn't aptly named because there are no ideals, just opinions of a few editorial managers to promote their own tastes onto a generation.

I know the deeper meaning - destroying women´s self - esteem and health. Every decade they would alter the ideals and put new standards for women to achieve and just when they finally did and are finally happy with themselves - they change them. And to be honest most of the ideals were soooo unhealthy. There are harmful pills to lose and gain weight, corsets shifted organs or worst case scenario - it broke their ribs. In the 1930s, women used a dimple machine to create dimples (how ridiculous is that?) and I shouldn´t even mention makeup bc this post would become an essay. And I just realised that the standards and ideals for men never really change. Nowadays bc there are so many different communities - there are no set ideals and that's what I like about 2020+ Haaa, now I feel better😂😂😂

As someone who studied fashion and fashion history I want to educate you. During world war 2 the men had to leave their jobs to go to war. To keep things going women took on the jobs their husbands had. They realized they couldn’t work in dresses, so they started to wear their husband’s work atire. This planted the seed in women’s heads that they too want to have jobs like men. Of course when the men came back they had to return to being housewives. This is when Christian Dior came into the mix because he created the “perfect housewife” attire after the war. But Balenciaga challenged this, by creating the “balloon dress” in the 1950s that was the first dress for women that didn’t show of their sillhouette, essentially revolutionizing the idea that women do not have to show off their curvature. This is what caused women to start wearing clothes that are more “freeing”. You also have to be aware of the pendulum swing. Curvy bodies were the ideal in the 1910s then flat skinny bodies in the 20s then curvy again in the 40s then skinny in the 60s then curvy in the 2010s. So the next trend is essentially skinny if we follow the pendulum swing

Well, to be fair, women get a lot of compliments they could be lies. The reason beauty standards exist is that it's what the opposite sex, usually, wants. Our biological goal as humans is to reproduce so we need to be able to get a mate. To do that they have to find us attractive.

Well some say that it's because of the girls cause they do alot of experiments with their body like butt surgery and waist trainers and stuff. And some say that because men's liking changes, the hottest girl they find is the girl with the ideal body. Well I don't which is correct so let me know in the replies guys

Hourglass was always it whatever the weight like skinny girls had a smaller waist in proportion with their busts and hips and so do curvy girls. Rectangle and inverted triangle were never a trend. Well, curves is what you mainly see when you are having sex with a woman and what attracts men overall regardless of time and culture flunctuations, also that curvy hip along with breasts represents throughout history fertility and child-bearing capacity and it's what mainly differentiates female to male bodies, thus making it highlightable... But food is highly available nowadays, especially processed while time (to do some exercise) is scarce... So the fuller trend ( other than breats and butt) isn't going to happen since it doesn't represent power, wealth or status... Watch Cent ury of S elf Also, standards for men definitely exists: but it just doesn't ever change -> it's always the strong/healthy type Pros for men: over 50+ years of fertility period, known as "aged like fine wine", (check medium age for most sexiest men VS women, for example) Cons: have to look powerful (aka able to provide for pregnant woman and kids for many years), which can be either shown physically or through wealth/statusIt's For everybody struggling: Write a list of weighted characterists you think you want in a person (life partner for example)... Take your time... After that, make a new list of things you yourself have from the previous list: you will find what you are looking for if you yourself have that inside of yourself as well

That stuff about different trends in different communities is definitely true. I'm in a lot of traditional Catholic circles and modesty in dress is very important so having a specific body type isn't important, just being healthy is an ideal. I love it. It's very liberating.
