I've been asked to take a look through the diet + weight loss content on TikTok so many times recently. Social media is full of scams and hearsay and I hope this video's a little reminder to show love to anyone online who might be struggling and point them towards qualified voices: Registered Dietitians and Medical Doctors.
For science-based home and gym workout programmes to build muscle, lose fat, or get athletic, my training + nutrition guides approved by a world-leading nutrition expert behind the British Olympic team are available on www.natachaoceane.com ❤️

In case it helps, Britain’s NHS shares that 2,223 calories is the average estimated energy requirement for a 13 year old girl. This only increases through adolescence (it’s nearly 2,500 calories for 17 y/o girls) and bear in mind that this is assuming an average level of activity which realistically isn’t going to be that much. Growth and development have significant energy requirements and we shouldn’t just take them as assumed ♥️ I hope it helps, love ya 💛 https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/childrens-health/how-many-calories-do-teenagers-need/

Natacha Océane unless you are a athlete or already large you will always gain weight eating 2500 calories that’s how much a typical 18-24 year old sports athlete or recreational lifter the and you don’t have studied to back up your claim preferably something that doesn’t include The shit link you used preferably NCBI or some other studies that prove your point I guarantee 80 out of a 100 times the people eating that amount will get fat as fuck and what about after teenage years sure you need more during that time but your metabolism only slows down you will have to consume less

I am an adolescent and if I ate 2,500 calories a day I'd be quite overweight. You simply can't generalize an entire age demographic without knowing height, weight, body composition, and so much more. my tdee, for example, is roughly 1700 calories . Im short and have a naturally small build and therefore I do not require 2000+ calories.

This is so different from what I was taught at that age. At 14, I was 5’3” and 140 lbs with a large bone structure. I still fit it children’s clothes. My gym coach and parents both thought I was obese, and my doctor had me on a 1200 calorie diet. I was in the school marching band and had a summer job working as a waitress, so I was regularly walking 15-18 miles a day on that amount of food. It made me so weak that I started passing out during practice, so my doctor decided I must be hypoglycemic and tested me for diabetes. I was the only one not shocked that I didn’t have it. Now I’m 27 and still trying to fix the damage they did to my metabolism and my mindset around food. I really wish American doctors would consult nutritionists instead of just giving out horrible advice.

Speaking of that one little tapeworm comment. People actually did that!!!!! In the 1950s and in the late Victorian era people actually ate tape worms for weight loss, this was totally a thing and is extraordinarily dangerous!

There is also significant research that says chronic malnutrition can effect generations after. Women who experienced the “Hunger Winter” in Holland over the winter of 1945 had decreased fertility, and their daughters had decreased fertility! Historically malnutrition has been a tragedy, a trauma, a famine may have been the worst experience in your life, and chronic malnutrition was both rampant, and seen as one of the greatest problems humanity faced. Do not let people on the internet convince you to put your body into a state of famine!

As a medical doctor, can I just say THANK YOU for being one of the (sadly) few sensible voices out there promoting true health and fitness. These trends are nothing new, but the way they spread via social media is truly scary. Thank you for spreading the right message further than many of us in the medical profession ever will. Thank you for this video, you just got recommended for me and it's the first time I hear someone talk about under-eating in this way. I mean I didn't know a lot of things you're mentionong in this video, like the influence of under-eating on our mental health and digestion. I have to admit, I'm an under-eater. Not because I want to lose weight, just because I stop eating when I'm stressed. And I didnt think it's that bad. Thanks for raising awareness and I love that youre linking your sources. I will reconsider my eating behavior

Guys. lost tons of weight doesn't need to be hard (I used to feel it did). I'm going to give you some advice right now. Get a popular lose weight methods called Custokebon Secrets (just google it). Thanks to it I've lost tons of weight. I shouldn't even be speaking about it cause I don't really want a bunch of other guys out there running the same game but whatever. I am just in a excellent mood today and so I'll share the wealth haha.

I have question here...ok I get that you shouldn't under eat drastically but at the same time when you're overweight they say you have to be on a calorie deficit. I have been on calorie deficit for a while but maybe not in a religious way because if I crave a chocolate (mainly on that time of the month) I have it but ofcourse I don't binge on it. In a steady (and slow) way I have lost some weight. So am I not doing it in the right way because I'm under a calorie deficit?

This is all so interesting, thank you so much for your positive and compassionate energy. I'm curious though, you talk about how so many people under eat, and the obvious effects of this. But what about overeating? And I don't mean people who don't eat and then binge. I constantly read how most people eat so much more than the body really needs, much more than the gut can calmly digest, usually out of boredom or whatever the reasons may be. How do you find a balance between the two worlds?

I am studying in school to become a dietitian and taking a micronutrient class currently, it is so mind blowing how much more food impacts us than just weight! Grateful to see content about fueling the body and giving it what it needs. Getting enough calories is definitely important! Love this video :)

20:10 Thank you for this, I feel like I have had a poor relationship with food since I was like 12-13, it is mainly because of social media, but I've found it is also from my family. I was just starting to grow and get some extra muscle and fat and I remember being so excited that I was growing and I told my mom that I needed new shorts because mine were getting a bit small and tighter and she said something like "well maybe you should stop eating second helpings or eating smaller portions because your gaining fat in your thighs" and it broke my heart. I was eating what she was putting on my plate, I was eating what she made! I feel like that is really when I started to feel guilty or feel weird eating foods I loved like taco bell around other people. I want everyone to know that my mom is amazing and if she realized that what she was about to say would affect me so much she wouldn't have said it. I just wanted to put this comment because this clip made me realize what was actually going on in my brain when I eat something and feel guilty.

It’s sad but so needed. Good you pointed this out! I undereat due to Crohn’s and i hate it! Eating food causes pain and me feeling sick. I almost never feel hungry and eat because i have to. Special nutri drinks with a lot of kcal’s etc and if that does not help i get a tube in my nose and cortisone to heal the inflammation in my stomach. I know how it feels if you constantly under eat. Muscles gone in a snap!, headeaches, tired as * all the time, depressed, bad skin, immuunsystem does not function how it should, infections, whole body is painfull etc etc. I hate it and i stress about not eating so the opposite of tiktokkers. Why would people do this to themselfs, makes me sad. I do realise that those people are also not healthy but in another way. I wish i could eat normal and a lot, to enjoy food and not be sick or in pain after.

Believe me when I say is not worthy, I’ve chosen to live now and I still have consequences for this way of starving, even tho know I am eating a great amount of calories and I am enjoying my food and my friends and family again. Hello, to anyone reading this I don't know what to do, I'm a european 17 years old girl. I started a diet about two months ago (my mom is a nutritionist so I promise it was the right approach). However, as time passed by I started obsessing over what I was eating, calorie counting (rn I try to stay between 400-600). Trust me I know it's horrible and I'm trying to get better with therapy but the voice at the back of my head continuously tells me I shouldn't be eating. I've never downloaded tiktok so that wasn't the source but it definitely started from social media. I'm definitely losing more hair and since I started dieting my period has stopped. Even my certified mom thinks I'm not eating enough but my subconscious rejects any help I'm getting. Honestly I just want my period back, I would never have thought I would miss it. I hope someone who's shared a similar experience, or not, can help me.

Okay, yes I agree with a lot of the points in this video. But 1400 calories is not undereating if the woman isn't exercising and is about 5,3/2. However, 2500 calories is too much. This misinformation you're taking off the NHS website (that just likes the throw around random numbers) is DAMAGING. My mother ate 2500 calories a day thinking it was a healthy amount, NEWSFLASH now she's obese and has arthritis and her weight is crushing her hips. Newsflash, the doctors don't want to operate on her because the extra fat makes the operation a lot more dangerous. I understand you want to make young girls like me feel good about our bodies and weights but this is just unacceptable. My mother's weight problems have caused so much pain for her and us as a family. She couldn't take me anywhere after the age of 8. She had to use a stairlift to get up the stairs until I was 14 and they finally performed the surgery after 5 years of waiting. If she falls over, she will be in the hospital for a month, she could even die. I'm a 15-year-old teenager who has to face the reality that my 55-year-old, very obese mother will probably die before I reach 35. She might never see my wedding day or my children because she was told that overeating was fucking fine, ahh yes 2500 is the normal meaning I can eat that much every day. DO NOT SPIN THE NARRATIVE THAT 2500 CALORIES A DAY IS FINE FOR A WOMAN, MOST WOMEN ARE 5,5 AND INACTIVE MEANING THEY'D GAIN 1-2 POUNDS A WEEK ON 2500.

PLEASE STOP with false food/diet advice. Actually any daily food intake of over 1000 calories is considered as normal, which is enough for the body to function (depending foods a person consumes). Eating over 1500 - 2000 calories is consider as maintenance weight and the NHS is wrong for food daily food intake, has been be exposed for giving false food advice and still does. What your video doesn’t explain is the person exercises and their NEAT (non exercise activity thermogenesis) burn off calories. i.e. If a person consumes 1500 calories plus their NEAT the avg person more likely to burn 300 to 500 calories which leaves the body with 1000 calories as stored energy. So for any of these girls featured in this video to be under eating is less likely. Feel as if your comparing their diets to your active lifestyle rather than their own. Something a real doctor/nutritionist would do is not put their own lifestyle into a patients lifestyle.

The people commenting that they binge at night after a day of restricted eating hit so close to home. I spent most of 2016-2018 depressed, overweight, and struggling to lose weight because I restricted my diet so much that I would end up overeating junk food at night. I still struggle to eat well every day, but I feel so much less stressed since I started letting myself just... eat when I'm hungry and stopped restricting my calories to only 1200 a day.

tiktok isn't a bad platform but the people are! people on the social media basically glorify a super skinny body, fast fashion, bad habits, and so many toxic things. yall must have gotten influence by people on social media, while you don't even know them. think, you can have an urge to buy a new phone because someone you don't know. so that's also on such as diet and fast fashion, they influence you without knowing. and that's so pathetic. if you can't stand it, i suggest you delete the social media. i did delete my instagram and tiktok. i never have a twitter, path, and other social media besides whatsapp and line. because i realized they are no good for me, for my self. be brave, take a step. this is your life, dont let people drive it💜

You have to eat 1500 to loose weight most dieticians have told me this but it also depends on the body type that’s just for me also have to fast with my fat loss injections only eating one meal a day but I am literally over weight. I lost 15cm on my stomach but nothing on the scale 🤦🏼‍♀️ so I look thin but am not healthy

I used to be skinny as hell but I had to go on anti psychotics for psychosis ended up developing an eating disorder because of the frantic weight gain being a model you have to be under 60kg for my height I’m at 75kg one problem created another wish I had never gone to hospital and just dealt with the psychosis. In a psych ward they force you to eat like 5 times a day. If you don’t eat you stay there longer it’s basically forced weight gain and helps develop eating disorders never going to a government clinic again.

Hey natasha, I just wanted to ask what if I don't eat a lot just because I'm really not hungry (not to starve myself or lose weight or have the "perfect body"). I also workout cause i find it to very helpful for my mental health. It's just that I'm skinny and can't gain weight, like is that healthy or not?

I usually don't eat breakfast or lunch, I do however have a small dinner. Other than that if I don't, I scatter snacks here and there. That's probably not the healthiest diet but.... It's what is happening.

People should stop glorifying specific types of bodies. What they should glorify is HEALTHY HABITS, you can be fat and healthy, and you can also be skinny and unhealthy. Also, don’t change your body because of what people say, if you are fat, then some people will bother you for being fat; if you skinny then some people will bother you for being skinny. So in MY opinion you should just stay on the healthy side of the road.

THIS TAUGHT ME A LOT, THANK YOU FOR THIS. my period is almost always regular. but ever since quarantine, when all the workout/diet craze intensified, there are times that my period comes in late or even skips a month. so at first i thought it was just because of excessive exercise, so i tried to go from doing 3-4 exercises/day, 6x/week to 3-4x/week to 1x/week. but then i try to makeup for it by limiting my food intake up til now. yet even with the super minimal exercise, my period hasn't come back yet to its regular. :( so thank u so much for this. i think i understand my body a bit better now. LOVE her content, & LOVE natacha. ure a real 1! keep helping & inspiring people ♥️

You bring so much positivity and always talk about body confidence and I need people like you to look up to, to be in my feed on social media or YouTube because you make me realize that I don’t need to look like a supermodel or have a super flat tummy to be appreciated by others. I need to love myself and my body as you do and feel good around food. Thanks girl for spreading love to all of us !

my younger cousin has a tiktok account, and she's only 8. I mean she mostly just watches roblox, but seriously, this isn't healthy. But like whoever has tiktok, and what they watch, these kinds of things get on their fyp's. I don't even have tiktok. my mom won't let me have it, but I don't really care

A few years ago I struggled with a eating disorder. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self that it is okay. Don't rush your weight loss. Don't starve yourself. Eat until you feel satisfied and try to be healthy. Do exercises you like to do. Dont overdo things. And most of all you are beautiful just the way you are. Me currently I am still sad but I am glad I am not struggling with food anymore or atleast as much. I have gained weight and I want to lose some to be healthy. But overall I think of myself better now than I did. I am currently 16 and trying to be okay with everything.

This video just opened my eyes, I have been feeling really shitty and very irritated since i'm like 13-14 and i don't even remember my chlidhood all that much. It just might be the effects of undernutrition because that's about when i started to count my calories and feel guilty about what i ate. I have been trying to live on a 1400 calories diet for almost 7 years now and still haven't lost that last 5 kg i wanted to lose. A gym instructor recently very briefly mentioned that i might be undereating, that started to make me think. I want to be strong but i just fear gaining weight.

This video is kinda old but Arbonne is a Multi-level Marketing Scheme, essentially a "legal" pyramid scheme. No only do they prey on insecurities of women but all their diet plans are ~1200 calories which is questionable. Most of the sellers/ "coach" have zero credentials to be giving health advice on top of it.

Thank you for being a good influence. I've dealt with eating disorders for so incredibly long and I'm still struggling to this day while pregnant gaining wait... yeah it's so dumb that I even have these thoughts because I'm supposed to gain weight for my growing baby but the guilt is strong. I have been eating pretty much everything I should and not restricting and trying to heal so that's good but I definitely think about food and weight way too much. It's a process but I really hope I can become a better influence for my daughter and watching your channel has helped me so much. Thank you!

My eating disorder almost made me kill myself, and made me end up in a psych hospital 4 times. It’s not worth it. Your are beautiful, like, drop gorgeous, stunning, fucking beautiful. You won’t become obese if you start eating normally again. I promise you. If you listen to your body and eat what you want, yes you might gain a little. But you know what will happen? Your body won’t be wanting to binging anymore, and you will find you crave more healthier stuff, and your weight will normalize to what it’s supposed to be. Whether that’s a size 4 or a size 12, bodies are made to grow to a certain point that we can’t control, you have to accept that. But just say, “fuck it” and eat a pop tart. Cause once you start normalizing eating non “safe foods” you won’t want them all the time. It’s weird, but it works. It’s scary too. And you won’t not cry and want to give up and just relapse but just go to sleep for the night and wake up, and I guarantee you will have a more realistic mindset. Be patient. Happiness is on the other side. 🙂❤️

So I've been on an on and off trying to be healthy but I think I am now at a point where I realized that of course you can try and be on a deficit, try on mad diets and whatever, yes I've seen it work on other people, my friends and family members but it never really worked for me in the long run. I realized what worked for me as an Asian who eats and lives with their family, eat what you have, try and lessen the white rice and take more protein and veggies, try and cut out the sugary drinks (I tried to going cold turkey, didn't work), drink hot tea to curb the sweet cold surgary drinks cravings a bit and drink a lot of water. When you feel like you need to eat that cake, it is okay to eat it but you need to have a balance of self-control so that I don't over-indulge and self-care so that I don't beat myself up over it. For me, when I force myself to not avoid all the sugars, I just feel way worst, regret and guilty. Perhaps in the future I may be able to get to the point where I can cut out all the additional sugar to get more cut and lean. I may not really know but for now, me learning slowly and picking up healthy habits like working out more, learning to get better sleep and caring for myself is working great for me. Plus it is so true when people talk about support. I feel a bit ashamed of it when it's with my family but getting friends to join me work out really enables me to push myself more. So yeah, that's my 2-cents. I am still confused on like a lot of things regarding health and getting fit but it's great that I get to learn about it on Youtube for free and motivate myself by watching others' health journies. Thanks for the educational video. A two thumbs up from me :D
